Jennifer and David's Ketubah Silk Scroll in Process

Jenny and David come to my studio for a friendly luncheon meeting. We discuss the wedding details and ideas for their ketubah

Hand inked calligraphy in English and Hebrew in the shape of a Chinese Lantern. Jenny and David wrote their own vows, approved by their Rabbi. It is in the shape of a Chinese lantern.

Jenny and David visit the studio to pick up their completed Rosenthal Ketubah.

Concept studies in color to get a feeling for the subject matter in watercolor and ink. 

I do studies of specific elements like this botanical lotus flower. I went on location to Wave Hill Gardens, Riverdale, NY to paint from live specimens. Watercolor on Fabriano Artistico 300 lb paper.

The completed Rosenthal Ketubah for Jenny and David. The scene is the Chinese Scholar Garden in Snug Harbor Botanical Garden, Staten Island, NY. "Full Moon Wedding". Chinese calligraphy in ink "Double Happiness". Bamboo surrounds the Hebrew and English wedding vows. Two cranes, three fish, lotus flowers and buds, orchids, cherry blossom, water fall, Chinese temple, walkway bridge and mountain. 23" x 47", silk mounted on silk, hand ground ink, waterproof Chinese ink, watercolor and gouache. A family heirloom to treasure. During the ceremony the Ketubah was stamped with Chinese and Hebrew seals and then signed by Witnesses, Bride and Groom and Rabbi officiant.
